We are approaching the winter season slowly and steadily. This is th time to secure your ski vacation. Nightjet has embraced the demand for their night trains and since December 2023 they have 10 new Nightjet trains in operation. I spoke with Bernhard Rieder, spokesperson for ÖBB (Österreichische Bundesbahnen), the Austrian Federal Railways, about the trends with night trains.
These new Nightjets connect Vienna with Hamburg and Innsbruck with Hamburg. Mr. Rieder adds “Since March also on the popular Vienna – Bregenz route. In September, the new Nightjet followed on the Vienna – Rome and Munich – Rome routes”
Your ski vacation to the Alps by train in 2024 and 2025
I wonder just how feasible it is to go on a ski vacation in the Alps by train with ski equipment? It turns out that this is already considered by Nightjet. “Snowboards and ski equipment can be carried as luggage.” Because the Nightjet tickets are available for purchase up to 180 days before departure, it is advisable to secure seats well in advance, especially to avoid higher prices closer to the departure date.
When it comes to the traveler trends, Mr. Rieder adds “There are travellers in every age group, from young students and families to business travellers.”
The expansion of transportation options for European travel continues. This is becoming increasingly apparent when looking at the renaissance of night trains around Europe.
